The Latest Trend with sub $999 computers:/disposal of the old system
It seems that more and more people are purchasing that 2nd home computer for themselves and wondering what to do with their 1st one. Computers don't seem to hold their value very well, so we'll present some options to consider...
1) Kids computer. Set it up for them and move their games off of your system, now you won't have to fight the kids for "computer time"
2) Network your old system to your "new" system and share your printer and files. A simple peer-to-peer network is all you need, consisting of a network card in each computer and cable connecting the units together. Network kits are also available that use your existing phone jacks and even wireless (no cables to run).
2) Sell it in your local newspaper.
3) Donate the computer to a non-profit organization for a tax deduction. Here in Council Bluffs, IA - St. Mark's Daycare is excepting IBM computers/parts (We donate our time setting up systems for the daycare contact us at: pcclinic@md4pc.com)
Use the following rule of thumb when deciding what to do with an old machine: Sell at two years. Donate at three. Be prepared to pay disposal costs at four.
